I live in a joint family and trust me when I say that it has both pros and cons that come in such situations. A lot of drama and a lot of action takes place all the time. We live with our parents and that makes it six of us living under the same roof. So that means we have six different opinions or atleast four because we choose to ignore the opinions of Mikhail and Michelle. Considering the advantages being more, let's talk about the pros of such a living arrangement.
  • Children get to live and spend quality time with their grandparents.
  • Children learn to respect and value elders.
  • Grandparents are available to take care of the children if Incaswe need to step out for an emergency.
  • Chores get divided amongst us, thereby reducing the load on all of us.
  • Family prayers happens everyday.
  • Grandparents teach them religion and prayer songs.
Cons are always there to something which has pros.
  • Constant arguments and mismatches in opinions on all things discussed.
  • Free advise on how to grow your children atleast according to their times.
  • Spoiling children by over pampering them all the time.
  • Lack of proper communication leading to constant fights.
  • Can't have late night plans because the sleep of the elders will be affected.
The things mentioned above are just about the pros and cons of living in a joint family. This is how our culture is as an Indian. Learning to embrace it is the best way to live a possibly happy life!
